Beach - I have to be honest, this is the only black mark I can give this resort and it is not their fault. Hurricane Wilma in 2007 took her toll on the beach and then erosion set in on certain sections of Playacar Beach. The beach is coming back and eventually the man made mini reefs, referred to as whales will all be out of site and under water. Charges (extra) - Spa treatments, Motorized water sports and long distance calling would be extra. Distances- In Playacar which is the golf and beach community next to Playa del Carmen. It takes about 15-20 minutes to walk into town or a short $5.00 taxi ride. Great location making it convenient for those who want a luxury resort, yet the convenience of town.
Fitness Area - A nice fitness area, top notch equipment. Food- Wow, I have not seen an all-inclusive before with these very opulent restaurants. The Las Ventanas reminds me of some of the classy restaurants you would see at some of the best dining and golf clubs. They also have a restaurants serving Asian, Italian, Mexican and Caribbean cuisine. Reservations are accepted 24 hours in advance and there is no restrictions to the number of times you may dine at any of them. They have a great selection of wines and you can schedule your own private wine tasting with their own sommelier. They also do tequila tastings. Getting Around- Taxi is the best bet for I do not suggest you renting a car unless you really know what you are doing driving in Mexico. You really do not need a car here since you are right next to Playa del Carmen.
Jackets and Ties- Keep them at home, but bring slacks and polo shirt for dinner in the specialty restaurants. Kids-Ok, this is where there is a bit of confusion for they are Adults Only but they consider an adult 13 years or older. People need to know this so if you see teens at the resort you are not wondering what is up. I would say since this is such a upscale resort and very quiet, I am not sure teens would enjoy it as much but you know your kids better than I. Little Known Fact- This was the first resort in the Riviera Maya to receive AAA's Five Diamond Award. It also is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World which is a prestigious organization representing some of the finest hotels in the world.
Negatives-As mentioned before, the beach is recovering and I hope shortly, I can change this section and next to the word Negative, I can put the word None! Nightlife- The dinner theatre would be the main evening entertainment along with a piano player. If you want more nightlife, there is plenty in Playa del Carmen. Opportunities- just staying here is an opportunity! Pool - The 6 smaller more quaint pools are wonderful. They are also one of the few resorts that have a heated jacuzzi in each of the pool areas. Not many resorts in the Riviera Maya have that.
Recreation- They have two tennis courts, Hobie Cats, wind surfers, water skiing, among other things. You are also across the street from the Playacar Golf Club. Rooms- Another wow. Each room is decorated in a very eloquent style with beautiful furniture and decor. You almost feel like you are staying in a hotel in Europe. There are more descriptions below in the "Just the Facts" section. Shopping-They have a small shop at the resort for incidentals and small gifts plus you have plenty of shopping in Playa del Carmen.
Terrain -This is small resort with only 200 rooms so very easy to get around. Updates -The beach is recovering and looking much better now. View - Most of the rooms have views of the beautiful grounds yet the Hideaway Suite will have ocean views. Weather-Mid December through May has the best weather. September and October gets more rain.

Ambiance - Eloquent, Opulent and Classy are three words that come to mind about this Adults Only resort. The resort has been the creme de la creme of the Riviera Maya for years. There is a running stream going through the resort making is very quite and serene. Though other resorts are catching up there is not another with the sophistication of the Royal Hideaway. 
Entertainment on Property -They have the only dinner theatre of any all-inclusive that I know about. Things will be more subdued here as far as activities during the day.
Internet Access -I love the fact you have free wi-fi internet access from your rooms. The bad news is if you are bringing your laptop with you, chances are you are working while there. I say leave the laptop at home and enjoy the resort. 
Medical Services-On call medical services. 
Protection-In room safe at no extra charge. 
Spa- Very class spa and those that are big into spa treatments, I think you will be happy campers.
WOW Factor- To me, one of the biggest wow factors is the restaurants and the dinner theater. The dining experience here will be like no other all-inclusive. But let's not forget the level of service too. They did not get the AAA Five Diamond Award on looks alone.
