Beach-A great stretch of beach that is excellent to take a long walk and swim. Charges (extra) - Spa services, Internet access, golf and horseback riding would be extra. Distances- Located in the Playacar Resort area and about a 20 minute walk into Playa del Carmen or a short 5 minute cab ride for only $5 each way. I really like Playacar. It has this secure upscale feeling to it. I felt very safe walking outside the resort in the evening. Entertainment on Property -Varied entertainment and activities during the day and evening. They have a different show each night in the theatre. Fitness Area - An adequate fitness area with machines and treadmills.
Getting Around- Very easy to get into Playa del Carmen and back. If you do not feel like walking, a short cab ride is only $5 each way. Internet Access -There is an hourly charge for internet access from the small business center. Jackets and Ties- Keep them at home, but bring slacks and polo shirt for dinner in the A la Carte restaurants. Kids- There are children's programs that include pool and beach games, arts and crafts and talent shows. Lighting-The resort is well laid out and well lit at night.
Negatives- The one negative I have with all the Riu Resorts and for most people it is not a big deal is the double beds in all of the rooms are usually inches apart so even though it is two beds you might feel everyone is sleeping in one big bed. For the European clientele, this is not a big deal but for the American market it may or may not be a big deal. Nightlife- Not only are there shows each night at the resort, guests may use the La Pinata Disco at the Riu Tequila and there is plenty of nightlife in Playa del Carmen. Opportunities-You may dine and use the facilities at the Riu Playacar and Riu Tequila. Pool-A great pool area. Ok, no infinity pool but I am ok with the swim up pool bar. Protection-There are in room safes. Recreation-Tennis, volleyball, sailing, windsurfing, snorkeling, kayaking .....should I go on?
Shopping-Small gift shop on property. Plenty of shopping in Playa del Carmen. Terrain-A lot of trees and foliage throughout the grounds. Tipping-Not required but as with any service industry, if your bartender, room service attendant or concierge really shines, they will appreciate the small gratuity since most people will not be tipping anyway. Updates-There is a new Sports Bar opening at the Riu Tequila of which guests of the Yucatan can use. Not that us guys need our sports fix! View-Most of the rooms will have a garden or pool view based on how the property sits along the ocean. Weather-December through May are the driest months. September through November are the wettest months WOW Factor-The location and tropical feel are what sets this property apart. X-Y-Z-A good solids value and even better now that it has been refurbished. |

The property offers an integrated children`s swimming pool, Mini-club and playground,and several times a week there is entertainment for children from 4 to 12 years. Children's Facilities Babysitting Fee: $8.00 per hour Cribs available on request basis for a small fee. |

Ambiance-The word that fits this property is Jungle. The grounds have an abundance of trees and foliage giving you this very tropical feel to it. Completely renovated in Spring of 2005 it now looks brand new. 
Food- 2 restaurants on the property itself but you may dine at any of the other 5 a la carte restaurants at its sister properties, the Riu Playacar and Riu Tequila, both a very short walk from the resort. Cuisines include Asian, Mediterranean, a steakhouse and grill. 
Medical Services-On call medical services. 
Rooms-The standard rooms are a bit smaller than some of the other resorts but still nice.
