Home> Riu Tequila
Ambiance-The words that fit best when you arrive at this property is family and fun. Don't let the fact that the resort sits across the street from the beach. It takes longer to walk from most of the rooms at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to the pool than it does to walk to the beach from your room at the Tequila. They have their own Beach Club and if you do not feel like walking little shuttles can take you over and you can be relaxing beach side in about 3 minutes. Also, this is considered a Riu Club Resort meaning all the fun stuff is here.
Beach-The beach is across the street and they have their own Beach Club for the property which sits right next to the beach at the Riu Palace.
Charges (extra) - Spa services, Internet access, golf and horseback riding would be extra.
Distances- Located in the Playacar Resort area and about a 20 minute walk into Playa del Carmen or a short 5 minute cab ride for only $5 each way. I really like Playacar. It has this secure upscale feeling to it. I felt very safe walking outside the resort in the evening.
Entertainment on Property -Varied entertainment and activities during the day and evening. They have a different show each night in the theatre. Plus the Riu Tequila has own disco which the other sister properties share and soon to open a fantastic sports bar.
Fitness Area - An adequate fitness area with machines and treadmills.
Food- 3 restaurants on the property itself but you may dine at any of the other 4 a la carte restaurants at its sister properties, the Riu Yucatan and Riu Playacar, both a very short walk from the resort. Cuisines include Asian, Mediterranean, a steakhouse and grill.
Getting Around- Very easy to get into Playa del Carmen and back. If you do not feel like walking, a short cab ride is only $5 each way.
Internet Access -There is an hourly charge for internet access from the small business center.
Jackets and Ties- Keep them at home, but bring slacks and polo shirt for dinner in the A la Carte restaurants.
Kids- There are children's programs that include pool and beach games, arts and crafts and talent shows.
Lighting-The resort is well laid out and well lit at night.
Medical Services-On call medical services.
Negatives- The one negative I have with all the Riu Resorts and for most people it is not a big deal is the double beds in all of the rooms are usually inches apart so even though it is two beds you might feel everyone is sleeping in one big bed. For the European clientele, this is not a big deal but for the American market it may or may not be a big deal.
Nightlife- Not only are there shows each night at the resort, it has the La Pinata Disco and the new sports bar. Plus there is plenty of nightlife in Playa del Carmen.
Opportunities-You may dine and use the facilities at the Riu Yucatan and Riu Playacar.
Pool-A great pool area. Ok, no infinity pool but I am ok with the swim up pool bar.
Protection-In room safe.
Recreation-Tennis, volleyball, sailing, windsurfing, snorkeling, kayaking .....should I go on?
Rooms-Rooms at most of the Riu's other than the Riu Palace tend to be a tad smaller than those of its competitors. They do have "common hall" rooms that can be used for families traveling together. There is a common hall that is lockable leading to two independant rooms.
Shopping-Small gift shop on property. Plenty of shopping in Playa del Carmen.
Terrain-Very Tropical and lush gardens. Sometimes you do not even realize there is a golf course right next door.
Tipping-Not required but as with any service industry, if your bartender, room service attendant or concierge really shines, they will appreciate the small gratuity since most people will not be tipping anyway.
Updates-There is a new Sports Bar opening. Not that us guys need our sports fix!
View-Garden and pool views. If you want to have a room overlooking the ocean, this will not be the resort for you.
Weather-December through May are the driest months. September through November are the wettest months
WOW Factor-All the fun stuff and being the most family friendly of the Riu sister properties in Playacar. Did I mention the new sports bar? They really did a good job with it.
X-Y-Z-One of the best values in Playacar
