Beach -One of the larger beach areas along this stretch of Playacar. Unlike some of the resorts that are built right up to the beach, Riu has left a lot of beach area, especially with shaded areas which people really like. Charges (extra) - Spa treatments, business services and internet would be extra. Distances- In Playacar only a 15-20 minute walk into Playa del Carmen. It is great for people who want that resort community feel but have the town within walking distance. Entertainment on Property -Varied entertainment and activities during the day and evening. Fitness Area - Since the resort is brand new as of 2006, all of their equipment is new. So for those of you who need to get those work outs in, their fitness area will keep you tone.
Getting Around - Because you are so close to Playa del Carmen, you don't need a car rental and I would not suggest renting a car unless you really know what you are doing. If you do not feel like walking into town, it is a quick $5.00 taxi ride and taxis are plentiful. Internet Access -There is internet access in their internet cafe located in the sports bar. I always wondered why they put it in the sports bar but that is pretty consistent across all of the Riu's in Mexico. Jackets and Ties- Keep them at home, but men bring slacks and polo shirt for dinner in the specialty restaurants. Kids - Though they have a kids program and a kids playground, I would say the Riu Tequila a couple of blocks away is more geared towards younger children. Guests of the Riu Palace, can use the facilities and amenities of the other Riu's in Playacar and they are all walking distance about 5-10 minutes apart. I would say this is more for adults, couples and older children who really do not need a lot of organized activities. For example the junior suites have a split level floor and it would be easy for a young child to hurt themselves going up and down that step if they are not careful since it is a marble floor.
Medical Services-On call medical services. Negatives-I would say the only negative is you need to make your dinner reservations for the specialty restaurants during a certain time period of the day rather than at your convenience. If you are out on an excursion you might not be there during those time periods Nightlife- They have their own theatre for shows and plenty of nightlife in Playa del Carmen. Opportunities -Take advantage of being able to use the amenities at the other Riu resorts in Playacar. Pool- They have 2 pools one being a children's pool and the other is a very large pool with integrated jacuzzis and a swim up bar.
Recreation -They have a floodlit hard surface tennis court, table tennis, workout, volleyball, 1 introductory scuba diving lesson in the pool, windsurfing, catamaran, kayaking, body boarding and snorkeling equipment. Rooms - All the rooms are at least Junior suites with the split level separate living area with sofa and table. Some of the Junior Suites have a sleeper sofa. They also have Suites and jacuzzi suites. Shopping-Small gift shop on property. Plenty of shopping in Cancun. Spa -They have all your standard spa treatments.
Updates - Opened in 2006. View-Right on the ocean with fantastic views from the higher floors. Weather-December through May are the best months for weather. The wettest months are late September through early November WOW Factor-The opulent feel the minute you walk into any of the Riu Palace resorts. X-Y-Z-This is a very good choice for couples or families with older children. Riu's are very consistent across all of their resorts as far as the quality and service. More Pictures Click Here |

Ambiance - With its sister property just down the block, Riu decided it was working so well, let's build a bigger Palace. Like the Riu Mexico, it is very opulent when you walk in and impressive. This resort is bigger than the Riu Mexico but designed very similar.
Food- They have more dining options than the Riu Mexico with 7 restaurants. They have 5 specialty restaurants, featuring a steakhouse, Japanese, Gourmet, Mexican and Brazilian cuisine. Reservations are required and can be made the day before. 
Little Known Fact - Riu's are family owned and the owners still are involved with the operation and quality of the services.
