Beach-Even though this sits in what is known as the Corridor where the undertow is too strong to swim in the ocean, they built a jetty that protects a small cove of beach where you can swim. They must of built this years ago before the laws changed because other resorts are not allowed to build these jetty's anymore. Charges (extra) - Spa Treatments and motorized water sports would be extra. Distances-Sits about half way between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo so you are about 15-20 minutes from each.
Fitness Area - A pretty nice fitness area, enough machines to work up a good sweat. But hey, you are on vacation, leave the work out clothes at home. Food- There are five restaurants on the property, of which two are specialty a-la-carte serving Asian and Pacific Rim cuisine. Don't ask me what Pacific Rim cuisine is but it sounds good! Also, they are testing the new policy of no reservations needed at the specialty restaurants and not having any restrictions on the number of times you may dine at them. Getting Around- They run scheduled shuttles to each city 3 times a day which is a really nice benefit. Taxis can be expensive depending on the time of day.
Jackets and Ties-Keep them at home! The gentlemen will want to bring at least so long slacks and a polo shirt to wear in the Specialty restaurants. Kids-Very family friendly with their Mini Club with special activities for kids 5 to 12 and they are one of the few resorts that have activities for the little ones 4 months old to 4 years old. They even have their own zip line which is pretty cool. Not quite as exciting as the real zip line tours but still fun. Oh, they have a climbing wall too! Little Known fact-They are the only resort I am aware of on the corridor that has a protected beach for swimming.
Negatives- Normally I say the non swim-able beach on the corridor but can't say that about the Melia. But if I had to say a negative it is the hard beds like most in Mexico. Nightlife-Not only do they have the entertainment in the evening but there is excellent nightlife in Cabo San Lucas. Pool-They have a pretty interesting lagoon-style pool with palm islands, a swim-up bar and a slippery slope imitating a natural lagoon. I prefer the pool over the ocean anyway so this is where you will find me. Protection-in room safe. Recreation- Where do I begin, golf (onsite), tennis, kayaks, motorized watercraft etc. Los Cabos is also known for its world class deep sea fishing and golf.
Shopping-They have some small shops for sundries and touristy stuff but there is plenty of shopping in Cabo San Lucas. Terrain-Pretty easy to get around and not a mammoth resort so it does not take you forever to get from your room to the beach. Updates-The Melia just went through a million dollar renovation so looks even better than when I was there a few years ago.
Weather-Best weather starts in November through March. The best combo of weather without crowds is November and December before the Christmas rush. The fact that Cabo is very arid and gets little rain on average, any time of year is good. WOW Factor-The children's program for kids under 4 years old and the swim able beach. X-Y-Z -Melia as a company has really focused on families. This is an excellent choice if you are traveling with children. More Pictures Click Here
