Beach-By far the largest and best beach in all of the Riviera Maya. Even if all four sections were at 100% occupancy, you still would not have a problem finding a beach or pool chair. Charges (extra) - Golf, hairdresser, horseback riding and motorized water sports would be extra. Distances- In the Riviera Maya south of Cancun. Not too far from Playa del Carmen. Entertainment on Property -Varied entertainment and activities during the day and evening. I thought the entertainment was better than I expected in the evenings. Fitness Area - They do have a very nice fitness area and sauna.
Getting Around- Taxi, renting a car and you can book day tours from the resort. Internet Access -There is an hourly charge for internet access. Jackets and Ties- Keep them at home, but bring slacks and polo shirt for dinner in the A la Carte restaurants. Kids- Kids Club Miki Maya with games, books, movies, a kitchen and video games. A Game Room, Teen Disco and Children's Pool. The PlayGround is perfect for after dinner before the evening entertainment begins. Lighting-The resort is well laid out and well lit at night. Medical Services-On call medical services. Negatives- No infinity pool! This is a personal preference of mine but I got over it real quick with their fantastic pool. Nightlife- They have nightly entertainment in their open air theatre and for those who love to dance at night they have their own Discotheque. Well, actually they convert the Steakhouse into the Disco. Opportunities-They have two convention halls and six meeting rooms so bring all your co-workers. Make them work while you hang out by the pool!
Protection-In room safe. Recreation-There is plenty for adults and kids with tennis courts, mini golf, kayaks, paddle boats plus lots of daytime activities for all. Rooms-I felt the standard rooms were very spacious and feel most everyone would enjoy the accommodations. Shopping-Small gift shop on property. Plenty of shopping in Playa del Carmen. Terrain-Very flat and easy to get around. This property is not as large as some of the others so you can be on the beach with very little walking. Tipping-Not required but as with any service industry, if your bartender, room maid or bartender really shines, they will appreciate the small gratuity since most people will not be tipping anyway. Just a hint.
View-Ok, with the way the property is situated an Ocean View is stretching it. You can see the ocean through the trees that borders the beach. The trees make some nice shade while gazing out at the ocean. Weather-December through May are the driest months. September through November are the wettest months WOW Factor-I have to say this ranks as one of the best all around properties that is as good for families as it is for couples. X-Y-Z-Would I go back? You betcha! |

The Barcelo Maya features five buildings of Mayan-inspired architecture overlooking 2 km of white sand beach with clear blue waters and a natural coal reef. Surrounded by miles of virgin grounds, each air-conditioned room has its own terrace. Located on a long stretch of virgin beach, the property features a full spa with Turkish bath, a mini-golf course surrounding a natural cenote, PADI dive center with an array of non-motorized water sports, pay-per-view and video games in rooms (fee). Beach: The resort borders 2 km of white sand beach lined with swaying palm trees. Enclosed by a coral reef,the beach features a small dock where you can step onto natural coral ledges and find yourself immersed in the amazing undersea life of the Caribbean. Ambiance - This property is one of my favorites both for couples and families. When I stayed here I felt this was one of the better resorts in The Riviera Maya. After just recently returning and visiting the property again it is even better with the two new sections that have opened up. 
Food-The are 6 restaurants, 3 are ala-carte of which include Mexican and Spanish cuisine plus a Steakhouse. If you stay in the new Colonial or Tropical beach section, you have access to 4 more restaurants, a steakhouse, Seafood, Mediterranean and Oriental cuisines. A word of warning for the guys. Bring at least one pair of long trousers to wear at dinner if you want to get into the ala-carte restaurants. I guess the women can wear whatever they want. To make it fair for everyone to get a chance to eat in the specialty restaurants they limit the amount of times you may dine at them to four times for a 7 night stay. 
Pool-I love the pool here and it seemed like there were more than two since it was so spread out. I like fru fru pools and this qualifies! Even better with the new sections opening up.
Updates-Honeymooners get a bottle of champagne, tropical fruits, breakfast room service their first morning plus upgrade possibilities.
