Beach-By far the largest and best beach in all of the Riviera Maya. Even if all four sections were at 100% occupancy, you still would not have a problem finding a beach or pool chair. Charges (extra) - Golf, hairdresser, horseback riding and motorized water sports would be extra. Distances- In the Riviera Maya south of Cancun. Not too far from Playa del Carmen. Entertainment on Property -Varied entertainment and activities during the day and evening. I thought the entertainment was better than I expected in the evenings. Not only do you have access to the new theatre here but you may enjoy shows at the Maya. Fitness Area - Brand new fitness center and Spa with new state of the art equipment.
Getting Around- Taxi, renting a car and you can book day tours from the resort. Internet Access -There is an hourly charge for internet access. Jackets and Ties- Keep them at home, but bring slacks and polo shirt for dinner in the A la Carte restaurants. Kids- Kids Club Miki Maya with games, books, movies,
a kitchen and video games. A Game Room, Teen Disco and Children's
Pool. The PlayGround is perfect for after dinner before the evening
entertainment begins. Medical Services-On call medical services. Negatives- No infinity pool! This is a personal preference of mine but I got over it real quick with their fantastic pools. Nightlife- They have nightly entertainment in their open air theatre and for those who love to dance at night they have their own new Discotheque. Opportunities-They have their own chapel making it a great destination wedding resort.
Recreation-There is plenty for adults and kids with tennis courts, mini golf, kayaks, paddle boats plus lots of daytime activities for all. Rooms-The rooms are spacious and nice. I love the fact they are brand new. They also have adjoining rooms that can be requested. They also have Junior Suites and Master suites that have two bedrooms. Shopping-Small gift shop on property. Plenty of shopping in Playa del Carmen. Terrain-Very flat and easy to get around. You have plenty of pathways for jogging and long walks. Tipping-Not required but as with any service industry, if your bartender, room maid or bartender really shines, they will appreciate the small gratuity since most people will not be tipping anyway. Just a hint.
View-The way the resort is designed, most rooms will have a garden or pool view. Weather-December through May are the driest months. October and November are the wettest months WOW Factor-I have to say this ranks as one of the best all around properties that is as good for families as it is for couples. Even better now. X-Y-Z-Because it opened in late 2005, everything looks great so take advantage of it. Click here for more

Ambiance
- These are the recently opened sections of the Barcelo Maya Beach Resort opening in December 2005. They have taken one of my favorite family resorts and made it even better. As the name suggests, the Tropical section is designed with more a caribbean style while the Colonial section has more of the old Colonial Mexican architecture. 
Food-The
are 6 restaurants, 4 are ala-carte of which include Oriental, Mediterranean, seafood and a steak house. You also have access to the 4 restaurants at the Maya so 10 in all. Finding a place to dine should not be a problem at all. A word
of warning for the guys. Bring at least one pair of long trousers
to wear at dinner if you want to get into the ala-carte restaurants.
I guess the women can wear whatever they want. To make it fair for everyone to get a chance to eat in the specialty restaurants they limit the amount of times you may dine at them to four times for a 7 night stay.

Updates-Since this was recently opened I think it is worth the little extra money over staying at the Maya since you have access to both complexes.
