Predictions concerning the demise of traditional travel agencies have been voiced for year, but both the travel agency community and Sabre Travel Network continue to make new and demonstrate that both are resilient and relevant. At no time were these predictions more prevalent than when online travel agencies were launched almost exactly a decade ago. Today, many successful travel agencies are transforming their business models, adopting new technologies, and providing the unique personal consulting services, travel expertise and human touch that cannot be duplicated electronically. Implementing service fees, adopting corporate booking tools, and utilizing customer relationship management systems are also examples of transformations. Some agencies have developed niche or specialty expertise. Denver-based David and Terri Rojahn of DTR Travel are a perfect illustration of a successful niche focus. In 1993, the Rojahns started DTR Travel as a small agency serving mostly point-to-point airline customers. In the following years, 9-11 and the rise in Internet travel booking took a toll on DTR Travel and sent David and Terri back to the drawing board. After careful thought, DTR Travel emerged in 2003 focused on family travel. Outstanding dedication, customer service and salesmanship have allowed DTR travel to double the volume of family travel they book in a little over two years.
