In Colorado Springs, you
can see some amazing attractions. Among some of the great sites in Colorado Springs
are the United States Air Force Academy, the elite Air Force training ground.
Be sure to check out the spectacular Cadet Chapel, widely recognized as one of
the nation's architectural masterpieces. Pikes
Peak is the 14,110-foot mountain that has an impressive resume. Native Americans
hunted and trapped on it for thousands of years; explorer Zebulon Pike identified
it as the gateway of the Rockies; and Katherine Lee Bates got the inspiration
for "America the Beautiful" while atop it. Your family can drive, hike,
cycle or ride the train to the top for a great view of Colorado. The
Royal Gorge Bridge soars 1,053-miles above the Arkansas River. This suspension
bridge is the world's highest. Most visitors walk across it, but you can also
drive it, cross the gorge via cable car, or descend to the bottom on an incline
railway. Garden
of the Gods has dramatic red sandstone formations such as the Sleeping Giant,
the Kissing Camel and the Siamese Twins sprawling over 1,300 acres. The Cave of
the Winds, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and the Seven Falls are also great places to
take in the culture and atmosphere of Colorado Springs. |
